I have tried to use windows movie maker for the first time when when I import video into movie maker
and after about 30 seconds of innactivity my pc freezes, shuts down, and reboots informing me about a serious error, it then goes through the error reporting procedure then advises me to Install latest vid drivers, manually decrease hardware acceleration. I have done as advised but it has made no difference.
some advise and help please.

A few ideas:

Any yellows in device manager?

Increase your paging files to 2 times ram size

Install all codecs from Klite click here

Some video file types clash with WMM but you can convert first with AVC click here

What processor? Video editing is one of the more intensive uses for a PC. Is it overheating?

AMD Athlon XP a well cooled case
I might add that I have done video editing on my system before using Pinnacle Studio 8. This issue has happened when I tried Movie Maker
