Problem with Internet Explorer

  iamconfused 14:44 11 Dec 2007

Help Please.
I can send and receive emails but I am unable to connect to Internet Explorer.
The IE page opens and then the blue bar along the bottom moves to less than half way and then stops. The screen just remains blank.
I have tried asking my ISP but they have been no help.
I have asked my computer supplier and they suggest that I delete and clean reinstall.
I would rather not go down that road if I can help it.
I can get antivirus downloads which is strange so why cannot I get IE.
The problem seemed to start when I downloaded Firefox to work alongside IE.
Having loaded Firefox I was then unable to load IE.
Then Firefox failed and I am now unable to use either of them.
I am unable to download any fixes because I cannot get onto IE.
I have looked at the forum and have tried all of the suggestions that I am able to use
without an internet connection. Still no good.
Have tried reinstalling from the windows XP CD,
I have tried advanced and reset..
I am getting desperate.
Can anyone please help me to be able to connect to Internet Explorer.

Have you uninstalled or cleared out Firefox? Can you get into IE7 enough to select tools and internet options to make it your default browser?

Two things to try, if you haven't already.

1. Go to Start > Run and type/paste in:

sfc /scannow

and click OK.

That should replace any corrupt system files, you might need the XP CD.

2. A System Restore to a time before you installed Firefox (when the problem started).

Thanks for answering.
I am using IE6.
Yes I have uninstalled Firefox.
Yes I have gone to internet options and IE is my default browser.

Thanks for answering.
I have tried sfc /scannow and have reloaded from my XP CD. It has not worked as explained in my original message.

I have tried system restore a number of times and it has not worked. The earliest I can go back to now is 20th September and I have just tried again but with no luck.

Send and receive e-mails.Why don't you get someone to send you an attachment with a different browser on it .Then you would be able to download it on to your computer.
