I wonder if anybody could give me some advice on downloading e-mail. A couple of days ago I downloaded and installed the new version of AVG 7.00 free. Since then I cannot download or send any e-mails. I have Zone Alarm pro running on my pc and a sadvised by the AVG documentation I have turned of e-mail protection in ZA and also ensured that in ZA’s program control both the AVG E-mail scanner and AVG download have full access to the internet (green ticks in all boxes). I am using OE6 and connected via NTL through a USB broadband modem. I have tried a system restore (back to AVG 6.00 free) and my e-mails download with no problem, I have also uninstalled AVG 7.00 free and once again no problem. When I try to download my e-mails with AVG 7.00 running I get the following error message in OE6 :-
“There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your User name was rejected. Account (Account name here) Server ‘pop.ntlworld.com’ Protocol: POP3 , Server Response ‘ERR Cannot connect to the host’ Port: 110, (SSL): No Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91”
Thanks for that Fruit Bat AVG 7 is now fully functional, after your advice on the setup, the only thing that confused me at first (I'll mention it for anyone else's benefit if they have the same problem) is that when you go into the servers tab and then click modify you have to check the type of login against USER/COMPUTER instead of the apparent default of Automatic otherwise you can't change the setting. Thanks once again to Fruit Bat and the other people who also offered advice.
