Printing via remote access

hope someone can help. i sometimes work from home and login to our works computer system via some software that the pc support guys installed on to my laptop, all works well untill i want to print, i have an hp usb printer but heres the problem the software will only allow me to print to a parallel port i have seen parallel to usb cables that allow a parallel printer to plug into a usb port but i need one to work the other way round ie usb printer to parallel port on laptop will thes cables work this way round or do i have to get a parallel printer thats the only sugestion the pc support guys could come up with but thought i'd ask here as there are some very helpfull people on these forums. thanks in advance.
