Can someone please explain to me why 6 Cartridge Printers are 'in'. Is it not more expensive but for better quality??

Better quality e.g. flesh tones. You only have to replace used cartridges when required. Often with the MYC the magenta runs out and you waste what's left of the YC.

6 carts would give you better quality images. But unless you have got high quality demands and had calibrated monitor, and printer to paper the difference will not be worth it. Also a 6 cart printer is more expensive and so if you do not print much, with out getting any return on your investment it will not be worth the extra cost

Con cur the above
Essentially 6 cart printers are Photoprinters
If you are into photography and now digital photography then may be worth considering if you like to 'process' your pix, even here a digi printer service is cheaper for the occasional user.
