Printer connections

I have a W7 Pro PC that is networked and has a printer on the network. All works fine but I can't scan over the network. Printer is a Brother MFC 5440 cn. Connected via cat 5 cable, to a Netgear wirless modem router.

To use the scan facility I have to connect the pc directly to the PC via a usb cable.

I then have to connect the network cable in to use it as a network printer.

Unfortuantely you can only connect one cable at a time to the printer.

Is there any way I use a switching unit to switch between usb and the network cable. It really is a pain as the printer use used externsively for both printing and scanning.

Any suggestions ???

You could leave the printer connected to the computer and share it. It would mean that PC would need to be on, or at least on standby, for any one else on the network to print.
