Printer Automatically Highlights Printed Text

I have an HP LaserJet P1102 printer. I've noticed that every line of text is highlighted with a faint gray color when printed out. I tried looking at the settings if anything was causing this, but I couldn't find anything.

This may sound a bit obvious, but are you sure the grey isn't there on the text on the screen? Often, I've copied/pasted stuff from the web that looks like black text on a white background - but on closer examination, it turns out to be a light grey background. Only reformatting the text brings the background back to white.

I pasted it both regularly and selected "paste as plain text," though.

I tested it around a bit, and it seems only to happen with text from Wikipedia, which explains the highlights, but they should be removed when I paste as plain text, shouldn't they?

Scratch that; it happens always when I select "Keep text only."

So: have you solved your problem?

Fyi, if I have formatting problems, I typically paste into Notepad first and then copy/paste from there to Word to eliminate annoying formatting issues.

The way you described it works for me, too. So this is probably a problem with Word.
