Preventing applications from auto starting up

In the tools section of ccleaner I've disabled some programs from the startup list by deleting the entries. But when I restart the pc they reappear in the startup list and run(on standby) in the background.

Some of the the affected programs are

Google toolbar notifier
Yahoo messenger exe - quiet
common files\real\update_OB\....

How do I permanently prevent these programs from starting up with windows?

Start>run>type "msconfig">OK>click on "startup">untick any programme that you don't want to start with the comp>apply> re-start your comp and they should be gone.
Depending on your layout you may need "administrator privileges" to carry this out.
You could get a programme called "The Ultimate Troubleshooter" which would do the same thing for you
