powerdown after shutdown

i recently had to reload windows xp over the top of the existing installation to cure a problem.
since then i have had no problems except when i shutdown instead of the computer posering down and turning itself off it now displays "it is now safe to switch your computer off"
is there any way to get it to power off automatically.

Go to Power Options in Control Panel, click on the Advanced tab and the option to Power down is in there.

there is no powerdown option in there also there is no apm tab as suggested by others.

i also forgot to mention that when i go t start, turn off computer the standby option is now greyed out. is this connected to the powerdown problem.

Have you switched to classic view to see the apm tab? Hopefully this will help you

Won't take the link as a click here. Remove the space before "support" and copy and paste into your browser.

That's when TinyURL click here comes in handy.
