A friend of mine running X.P.has picked up a dialler from somewhere in spain,
I can delete it in explorer and delete the icon from the desktop, I can't find it in the registry, but the sod must be there somewhere, as when the computer restarts it all returns, I dont use X.P. I am on 98se and 2000 pro, so I am unsure where else to look to kill it off, I have run spybot but to no avail any suggestions ? please

As huggyg71 suggested, Spybot should find it, but make sure that you update first.

I read recently in a magazine the only way to stop this is to get in touch with your telephone company and tell them to put a block on that number.

You should get Premium rate barred from dialling out froom yoyur number- this can be doen by your phoneline provider eg. BT. This has some drawbacks as some helplines are premium rate and other competion line. But to get additional protection get SpywareBlaster which prevents Diallers installing. (update and select all then press protect all) click here

Help!:D

He, as in 'I', could be trying to fix this for a friend. I don't think you're contributing anything useful to this thread.

Good idea to empty the temp internet folder , also temp folder , check add/remove (you never know).

huggyg71`s and Proxy Worm`s suggestions of spybot ,adaware , SpywareBlaster are best followed .

Worth noting the above software wont catch all dialers/diallers , Dialer control from click here , can at least be configured to block them , worth a look (install has the option for English).

You say icon on the desktop , is this a shortcut ? have you done a properties check on it to find anymore details ? get as much info/names on it and use the `find` facility in XP.

I had one that appeared in "dial up networking", made itself at home as a new connection along with my own ones. Maybe stating the obvious but has the icon got uninstall on it when you right click?
