Pop ups

I have been running my PC for three years and have started to get web sites popping up when I am on IE7. I have tried and failed to stop them appearing, what is the cure

Try Firefox - it has a built in pop-up blocker.

You could try the free version of this. It has worked for me.Go to bottom left of the page for download.

I have always operated with the same anti virus and Internet options and had no pop ups. Why has it changed?

Have the problems begun with IE7?

Might be a good idea to check for spyware with windows defender / Spybot etc.

I'm getting the same problems, even with Firefox. Initially Firefox was good but now some pop ups get through. I'm also getting a desktop shortcut appearing now too. It directs me to a Zone alarm website. (underhand tactics if you ask me).
I run Spybot and Adaware and they don't detect anything. I must have some sort of installer on my pc.
Interested in your thoughts.

1. They have only started to appear in the last two weeks, I have had IE7 since it was first available. Have raised "Privacy" on Internet Options to highest level and ,touch wood, it seems to have stopped them.

2. I am using Norton Internet Security 2008, a complete system scan has revealed nothing

No, I used to use an old version IE and got all sorts of pop ups. Then a friend told me about Firefox. I had none for ages. Then I started getting 1 every time I go on line. It appears to be the same advert. The Zone Alarm shortcut is the most annoying.

I raised the privacy to the highest level and the Zone Alarm shortcut doesn't appear any more. Thanks.
However I am still getting some pop ups.
