Poor wi fi signal

  Digital 13:30 02 Aug 2006

My son has a BT Voyager 2100 ADSL router which his wife connects her laptop to via the wi fi facility. The signal is a bit weak in some areas of the house, probably due to the thick walls. Moving the router is not possible & the router antenna is not removeable. Any ideas how to improve the signal? A second router to act as a repeater has been suggested, has anyone tried this idea?

You may be able to improve the existing signal first.

Try mounting the wireless router as high up as possible and try moving about in the room as far as the cables allow. It will be cheaper to buy a longer ethernet or phone cable than another router or a repeater. You can always disconnect any ethernet cables temporarily whilst you try this.

Also try changing the orientation of the antenna.

Thank you FelixTCat, I'll pass that onto him.
