Hi there,

I've fitted & installed a new hard drive (40gb) to an system thats 128RAM & has a possible P2 processor (not entirely sure).

Any way i've partioned the new HD, used the boot disk to get an OS on there..that goes threw the motions and tells me CD ROM drive is E.

I type E:\autorun after i've put the cd in & i get this error message

CDR 101 not ready reading E

SO I reboot with just the cd in & i end up with 'missing operating system'

I think it's soemthing small that i've missed...

any ides???

What operating system are you trying to install?

I'm sorry, I'm not an expert on the system, someone else will be along shortly.

How long did you wait after inserting the CD before typing E:\autorun ?

That message sounds like you may have asked it to perform before it has finished spinning up.

Also try E: <Return> and see if you have a prompt that lets you browse the CD. Then type setup <return> if you get an E: prompt

waited a few moments b4 hitting the autorun...tried your suggestions still getting

CDR 101: not ready reading drive E
Abort, Retry, Fail?

Recap: .......1) you boot with the startup floppy? If so,

2) Do you choose "With CD support"? If so,

3) When A:> prompt arrives it has presumably already said which drive is your CD drive? Then insert the ME cd and type E: or whatever the CD drive is.

4) Now type - setup and Enter

when you get the E:
type dir after it. so;

E:\ dir and press enter

does it say folder with win ME

If so, go back to e:\ and type WINME\setup and enter

it should then start the installation.

Can you see the CD in another PC? It is just possible that the CD is damaged I guess.
