Pesky Pop-up Ads!

  ade.h 22:07 13 Aug 2003

I've recently started receiving pop-up windows from ENDADS dot com and BYEBYEADS dot com (from the same source?). Norton Firewall isn't stopping them, even though I've tried configuring it to do so, and NAV, Ad-aware and Spybot have found nothing suspect. The pop-ups are at random and appear in normal-looking app windows, not in IE.
Any ideas as to how I can kill 'em off?!

Or if you can't be bothered with all that malarky click here

Thanks guys! Once again, the forum regulars have come through for me! I thought I'd disabled the Messenger service ages ago, so I didn't think to try it.

Is this service anything to do with Windows Messenger? I removed that from the Systray as soon as I got XP, but it starts up as part of the MSN browser, which I use for e-mails. If the two are the same thing, will disabling the Messenger service cause a conflict with MSN?

No, they are separate. j.

Yep, that's cured the problem. No more pop-up spam. I'll mark this as resolved.
