Hi bumps1

I've got a Compaq 1.7 P4 as a second machine. Can you tell me a little more about the spec and what you intend to use it for?

Thank for your reply It will be for small office and family computing Its spec is 228 ram 40 hd with cd rewriter drive running windows 2000 prof.,

Hi again..
For the small office side, I think it will be more than sufficient for your needs. You might want to consider upping your ram to 512 meg though. For gaming, mine has 512meg of ddr ram of which i can allocate up to 64 meg to graphics. This does not seem to trouble it when running games like Unreal Tornament 2003 which is quite a recent game and is quite demanding to run.

Hope this is of some help...

Ditto timeforabeer, the 1.7 shud be more than sufficient for a family/office thing.

My current wholesale price difference for a 1.7GHz, a 1.8GHz, and a 2GHz processor is very small. The 2GHz should only be around £30-40 dearer to a user.

The 2GHz also has a 512Kb cache, whereas the 1.7GHz has 256Kb. Thus the 2GHz is a significantly faster processor for very very little more outlay.

Alternatively, the 2GHz Celeron has 128Kb cache, and should be £30-40 cheaper.

So it may be a good idea to enquire about variations in processor for your proposed system.
