pen drive

I have a sandisk 8gb pen drive, which used to show up as a 'drive' in my computer. It no longer does, it now shows up as a 'folder'.

When I plug it in, I still get the dialogue box from windows (xp) asking if I want it to open files. When I click 'open' or 'yes' it tells me it can't access the pen drive, so I then need to dbl click 'my computer' and access the drive (folder) from there - which works.

Is the pen drive knackered, or is there a solution to this? I was toying with re-formatting it after moving the contents safely.

So, Does it make a difference?

If it still works as it should come back when it stops doing so

This is the work of a virus which created a autorun file to make you PD appear as a folder. It has just changed the Icon. This should get rid of the problem :

Go to "control panel"> "folder option".

Choose the "views" tab, do the following,

Check "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide protected system files"

Click "OK"

Then right click on the drive and select "explore".

When the drive open you will see the "autorun.inf" or "autorun" file.

Delete this files(s) and and reconnect the drive.

That should fix it.

After the problem is gone go back to "folder options"> "views" tab select "Restore Defaults" Click OK.
