Having installed Nitro PDF it has become my default Reader.
When I set a shortcut on Desktop I would like Adobe as the default Reader

How to achieve please?

Why do you need two, uninstall nitro or Adobe or both and use this, it's a more that suitable alternative.

I don't want to go there again.

I don't want to go there again.
I don't know where that is!!

foxit is a superb little prog against Adobes bloatware...

Right click a file you want to open in acrobat, and click 'open with...'

Then select acrobat from the list and check the box that says 'always use this program to open these file types'

Find Adobe in "all programs" in the start menu and add (by right clicking) a desktop shortcut.

Delete the desktop shortcut you don't want again by right clicking the shortcut icon and selecting delete. That still leaves the program installed by the way.

Set your default progs to just use Adobe

this was for XP other will be similar.

Right click on a PDF file choose "open with" from the list this should open up a list of currently installed programs that can open pdf files choose the one you want to open it with, when offered put a tick in the box that says "always use this program ~"

Cheers HC
