PCI Express slots on mobo question

I am currently in the market for a new mobo, my first one with PCI express. Most mobo between £50 and £100 have 1 PCI Express x16, 1 PCI Express x1 and 2 PCI Slots. The PCI Express x16 is for the gfx, does the PCI Express x1 just act as a PCI slot if I want it to? For example could I plug my Creative X-Fi in to it?

No its designed for items that can use the PCI x1 slot. You cannot use it as a PCI slot. Its a different size apart from anything else.
