PC2700 memory upgrade

  GermfreeUnicycle 14:57 22 Feb 2003

I currently want to upgrade my system from 512MB Ram to 1024. My current memory is PC2100. If i bought a 512MB 2700 module would this still work with my current ram, and would it run at 2700 speed or 2100?

My mobo is an asus a7v333

Personally I would stick with the same as already installed to avoid potential conflicts

If there were no conflicts the PC2700 would run at the slower PC2100

I recall reading that PC2700 will only run at it's full speed if the processor supports it - ie. athlon 2700+ running 166.
So as Lozzy points out it's better not to mix them.

According to the Crucial web site, and phone enquiries, I asked them the same question. Reply is. " Yes pc 2700 will run with pc2100 with no problems at all, but will be recognized at the lower speed of pc 2100". J.

PS, sorry forgot to say that this applies to my M/Board. Elite K7S6A. If you use the memory configurator on the Crucial site it will tell you what you may use and match/mix. J.
