PC won't turn on when video card is plugged in

Hi, I had a pc a couple of years ago which I used mainly for gaming but unfortunately the power supply stopped working recently. I was gifted an old computer by a friend which was empty in the sense that it had no video/graphics card or RAM chips. I thought I could simply remove the graphics card and RAM chips (8gb each) and slot them into the new pc and all would be well but that was not the case as the PC would not power on although my friend had shown me previously that it worked perfectly before giving it to me. I thought maybe it may have something to do with the drivers for the graphics card not being installed on the new pc? I could be wrong but that is my best guess, only problem is I have no idea how to get hold of the drivers for the graphics card that I have. Any help/advice would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Will it power on with just the RAM inserted? It is possible it is wrong type of RAM

what is the motherboard make and model if known? if not known can you read the identification number off the board?

More details required. "Old, gifted" computer make/model, Motherboard make/model. Also need make and reference details for the graphics card and RAM sticks you are plugging into it. In addition what is PSU power rating, the installed OS.
