pc won't start, confirm my thinking please

I have a pc, pentium2 300hz,64ram win 98.
when you start it there is nothing on the screen, completely black, no bios info anything, case lights up and fans come on ok.
Have tried different monitor, different graphics card, different processor, and even power supply. Would I be right in thinking that it must be the motherboard that has had enough??
Or have I overlooked something obvious??
The hard drive is ok as I connected it to my main pc and copied it over for backup.
Any ideas or have I covered everything??

I would try different ram if that does not work then I think that you could be right with the expired bios on the MoBo.

Any beeps at all when first booting?

I starts with a quick double beep like it has done for a long time.
Its not mine, so i think I'll go and break the news.
