PC won't connect to homehub 2, but several laptops in the house will!

My father's (fairly elderly) desktop will detect the signal from our homehub, but won't connect to it. 1 netbook, 3 laptops & 1 printer all connect perfectly. By moving the pc downstairs, to be RIGHT next to the hub, it works, but anywhere else in the house it just refuses to play ball. Thinking it might be an outdated wireless card - is there any way to check what it's running, and does that sound like a possible cause?

Try a modern dongle in the desktop and see if it connects then.

With the PC next to the hub so that you can connect to the internet you can check what is happening with the wireless card in Device Manager. Click here to access Device Manager Then scroll down to Network Adapters and see which wireless adapter you have. Right click it and then left click on Update Driver Software. Let it update and then move the hub or pc away and see if that helps. If not consider using an external USB device such as this one from ebuyer
