pc wont boot windows

hi windows wouldnt start up one day. Asks to insery boot disk. Got a copy of vista, went through boot from cd, then asking for device drivers for HDD as no HDD was detected.
Checked bios for HDD (sata)and when I check it keeps dropping off (ie sometimes there then not after reboot).
Have done all checks - data cable, power cable, swapped to stata port 2 then back to 1.
At a loss, is it the hdd itself?

could be faulty drive, if its not seen in the BIOS, also sata Drivers may have got corrupted. So first try to find and load the drivers for the Drive. If its a newish computer factory Built then the most likely would be on the Motherboard CD. Other than that, Go to Drive maker Site and download the correct drivers for it. You would have to use some means of installing the Drivers after using a Disc to boot to a DOS Screen. Like a Floppy Drive etc

Ill try that, it does say that you can use usb to load the drivers so Ill give it a whirl.

You will need to set BIOS for USB to Enabled
