PC won't boot - NTLDR is missing??

  RickB 17:53 27 May 2003

The PC I have networked to this one has suddenly stopped. It froze, and on rebooting, got to

Verifying DMI Pool Data......

and then said

NTLDR is missing
Press any key to restart

so I did - and the same message came up again.

The machine is runnig Windows XP and will boot from the CD drive if the Windows system disc is inserted, or from an A: drive boot up floppy.

Can't get windows itself to start though.

Any ideas what NTLDR is??

Was it an upgrade to XP from 98 or Me

Thanks folks - all sorted. You have saved my life as I hadn't a clue what that was about. Have never seen that one in any of the mags.

Interesting - all the articles you sent me to suggested this is something that can happen as soon as you upgrade to XP - in my case the machine has been running XP happily for about 6 months then suddenly crashed without logical reason.

Who says PC's aren't female!!!
