PC won’t work with gfx card, only onboard gfx

Hi! Just upgraded my Windows 10 PC with some 2nd hand gear - Intel i7 3770 and an Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard. Everything is ok except the graphics - if I plug the monitor to the onboard integrated graphics everything works but when I plug into my Radeon R9 280, there’s no video signal, it’s like the board can’t see the card. The card is plugged in properly and the psu is connected it too as normal. In BIOS I have selected auto for graphics - I tried selecting PCIe but it reverts to auto each time.

I’ve reset CMOS too but it will not work with the card plugged to the monitor. I device manager the Radeon shows up if I view hidden devices but it says it is not connected.

I have to assume the card and PSU are fine as I was using them right up until I swapped the board and card yesterday.

Can anyone suggest anything I might have missed or can try? This is doing my head in!
