PC WINDOWS 98 DOES NOT SHUT DOWN

My IBM computer running on Windows 98 will not shut down when I press the shut down command. So I can only stop it by cutting off the power. It does a disc check every time it switches on. How do I make it shut down properly?

Have a look in Help from Start button, under Start Shut down Troubleshooting

when in windows click start>shutdown then click on restart in ms-dos

When in DOS type scanreg/fix

When completed(and this may take sometime) a box will pop up saying ok. If the computer does not restart and you just get a flashing cursor type EXIT

Hope this helps you out

PS if this is 98 not 98se then "Fast Shut down" should be unticked IN MSCONFIG from Run Box. Start\Run type MSCONFIG then got to I think it under windows Tab in 98
