My IBM computer running on Windows 98 will not shut down when I press the shut down command. So I can only stop it by cutting off the power. It does a disc check every time it switches on. How do I make it shut down properly?
Check for damaged shut down sound file. i.e turn it of in Control Panel Sounds
I have turned the sound of and it still does not work. I think it is time for a new whizzier pc!
Have a look in Help from Start button, under Start Shut down Troubleshooting
when in windows click start>shutdown then click on restart in ms-dosWhen in DOS type scanreg/fixWhen completed(and this may take sometime) a box will pop up saying ok. If the computer does not restart and you just get a flashing cursor type EXITHope this helps you out
PS if this is 98 not 98se then "Fast Shut down" should be unticked IN MSCONFIG from Run Box. Start\Run type MSCONFIG then got to I think it under windows Tab in 98
Thanks, Madboy33.That has fixed it.
My pleasureDont forget to tick as resolved
