PC start up error - windows 98se

Friends PC was not booting up, it was just hanging at the stage when Windows should kick in.
The Dell Windows recovery disk was used to restore files.
This enabled a boot up but got the following error.

Error on Start up…System is a dell PC Windows 98se

This is the error message.
Cannot find a device file that may be needed to tun Windows or a Windows application.
The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists.
If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or setup program.
If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

Press any key to continue

Then it boots up Windows 98se, A pop up box appears titled C:\Windows\system\zonelabs\vsmon.exe
Validation failed for C:\Windows\system\vsinit.dll

Click ok and it clears?

Also pops up the Dial up connection box for the Internet.
Click Cancel and everything seems to work ok!!

I can clear the Zone alarm popup box, in the MSCONFIG by de-selecting the line…
TrueVector – ZoneLabs VSMON.exe
This stops the zone lab popup box.
Zone labs client is also a line in the MSCONFIG startup
Zone labs is not installed on the PC anymore it has been removed.
How can I remove these zonelab lines from MSCONFIG startup.

For the Internet popup box at startup, there is this line in the msconfig.
1.MicroDialler – Wanadoo connection Kit.
But de-selecting this does not stop the internet popup box.

How can I resolve the vsdata95.vxd issue, stop the internet popup box at startup and clear the zonelab lines from the msconfig startup.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Resolved all issues but One, I have re-installed the zonelabs firewall and all startup issues have gone.

Can anyone help with the Internet connection box pop up at start up.

Has anyone got any comments on zonelabs free firewall software.
