PC reboots when USB printer is connected

Hi there
I have built a PC around the Giga-Byte GA-8GPNXP Duo Motherboard (it ws felt to be very stable in reviews) - unfortunately I find that when I connect my HP PSC 750 multi-function device to ANY of the USB 2.0 Ports (back or front) of the PC, my system immediately reboots and once we are thru the Windows Logon, it reboots again or gives the blue screen of death.
I would appreciate your advice on correction as I can't seem to find any advice on websearches or even at the motherboard support pages.
many thanks for your help

Do other USB devices work on these ports?

What happens if you plug in the device then start the PC?

Have you checked for latest motherboard drivers?

Yes, other USB devices work on these ports (pen drives etc).

Windows loads up, I logon, then when booting sems to be completed, it reboots or i get the blue screen of death.

Yes, latest motherboard drivers no help.
