pc performance software

my system is xp home protected by norton antivirus & firewall along with adaware and spyware blaster. recently my system has slowed considerably and i have been receiving emails from companies replying to me although i have not sent anything to them. all my antivirus and firewall is up to date but showing no virus when checked adaware finds nothing so i was wondering if there could be problems elsewhere but task manager shows nothing untoward. i have plenty of disk space remaining. is there any free software that runs a system check that maybe would reveal if anything is causing this problem? any advice would be much appreciated.

Do you update your security software frequently?

1 - try defragmenting the hdd

2 - get a good registry / temp file cleaner - eg CCleaner - click here

3 - try spybot also - can find stuff others leave behind: click here

4 - if still concerned, try an online scan: click here

By the way, I don't know of any "all in one" package like Norton Systemworks which is free.

CCleaner and Regseeker + adaware or similar will be more than enough. Regseeker is available at...click here

These three are, IMHO, are better than Systemworks.
