pc - not holding time and date correctly

If I have not used my pc for a couple of days/weeks it loses track by hours or days.
I went away for a week on the 23/8 and returned on the 30/8 and the clock said 04:30 23/8. I am running xp pro and my mobo is a chaintech apogee 73jl. i dont think it is the battery has it is not afecting anything else like my boot or detection sequence

It is the CMOS battery

Yup battery. Does it loose more time the longer its off?? If so then its the battery. battery doesn't do anything towards "boot or detection sequence".
