PC Migration advise

wanted to set up a new PC with the same program application/settings as an older PC.

Seen Laplink.com product advertised which seems to have mixed reviews and wondered if there are any other programs/suggestions which may save time reinstalling everything. thanks

O/S WinXP.

Migrating programs doesn't work, you'll have to reinstall those from their installation CDs or from their downloaded exe files. Documents, files, photos etc, can be moved across quite easily in various ways.

Norton Ghost or similar will do what you require.

Or buy a crossover cable for about a fiver and network the two PCs, no need for laplink, Norton, Acronis or other, although they would be useful additions later.

... just to clarify, what i was thinking. After initially setting up a New PC (with operating system/drivers etc) was looking to transfer existing programs/setting from an old PC straight onto a new PC.

Although would normally reinstall programs, noticed laplink PCmover program migration tool which seemed to save alot of time. Although since noted not all pplications can be moved and wondered if there were other tools available.

Would Norton Ghost 12.0 do this as well, or is this just a backup program? Noticed Symantec Ghost Solution Suite appears ?

Any thoughts ?
