Hi. A friend got infected her pc thx an e-mail some days ago.I'd like to know what steps to follow to cure it.
Also have these questions:
1) Applying an antivirus at this stage will cure it
2)I read that there are some trojans that stop antivirus, so if the antivirus don,t detect it , where to look at (the registry?)
3) AVG used to be free and this week found they charge now. Is that correct.
Apart from that, wich free antivirus is good.
Thanks.

AVG is still free, but you get the free edition from a slightly diferent website - see Gandalf's link. Update it as soon as you've installed it.
Download and run all the spyware stuff that others have already recommended.
Also download a2 (A squared), and run that.
Then, if the OS is Win Me or XP you neeed to switch off System Restore and then switch it on again, (this is to empty the trojan/ worm/ spyware/ whatever from the memory of the computer, so there is no risk of it popping out again at a later date). Earlier OSs didn't have Sys Restore.
Remember that anti viruses stop viruses - they don't necessarily stop spyware, worms, trojans etc. But the software that we have suggested will get rid of those. You don't need to delve into the registry.
