PC Games Crashing To Desktop

  KristianDagless 09:33 05 Jan 2020

Hello,

I have a very very annoying issue with my PC. All games just crash to desktop, no warning, no error pop ups. This isn't specific to any game but to name a couple Far Cry 3 and The Witcher 3. I have clean reset Windows 10, tried only using one monitor, tried unplugging headset (I use hyperx cloud 2's which are known for causing crashes in windows 10) but the problem still persists. It literally just closes the game down, like I've pressed Alt+F4.

The PC is still in warranty but rather than go through that process I'd like to try and understand if this is a hardware issue first.

Specs:

Operating System Windows 10 Home 64-bit CPU AMD Ryzen 5 RAM 16.0GB Motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. B450 AORUS ELITE (AM4) 26 °C Graphics PL2530H ([email protected]) PL2530H ([email protected]) 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 (Gigabyte) 41 °C Storage 223GB ADATA SU630 (SATA (SSD)) 38 °C 1863GB Seagate ST2000DM008-2FR102 (SATA (SSD)) 32 °C Optical Drives No optical disk drives detected Audio NVIDIA High Definition Audio

Error in windows event viewer (for Far cry 3, witcher didn't log one although still closes down the same):

Faulting application name: farcry3_d3d11.exe, version: 0.1.0.1, time stamp: 0x5ae9a466 Faulting module name: FC3_d3d11.dll, version: 0.1.0.1, time stamp: 0x5ae9a41a Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00ce887d Faulting process ID: 0x2e40 Faulting application start time: 0x01d5c3601ae1f7a7 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\bin\farcry3_d3d11.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\bin\FC3_d3d11.dll Report ID: 1f475c0c-302f-4a05-b2f0-bb416a7de26e Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:

Things I have tried:

Updating/rolling back GPU drivers Clear install of Windows 10 Using only one monitor instead of dual

Thanks in advance,

Interesting - thank you for replying.

No issues with direct x or the memory, however looking in the reliability monitor revealed 3 critical crashes (at 4am I left the pc on with FC3 running) with the detail I mentioned above.

More interesting to me was there were about a hundred (every 15 mins or so) 'hardware errors' all relating to LiveKernelEvent, see details below:

Description **A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly. Problem signature Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent Code: 3000040 Parameter 1: 2 Parameter 2: fffffc8c0f579620 Parameter 3: 1b0 Parameter 4: 0 OS version: 10018363 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 768_1 OS Version: 10.0.18363.2.0.0.768.101 Locale ID: 2057**

Do you reckon this is related?

Thank you, no worries, I've been playing around with it but still having issues, I'll just have them take it away to inspect.
