PC Freezing Whilst Using Internet

  Jasper1973 14:10 30 Mar 2009

XP, IE6, Firefox

My PC keeps freezing whilst surfing the net. It does it in both IE and Firefox. When it does I am unable to do anything, resulting in a hard boot via the power button. After this the PC appears to be asleep, as a key strile or move of the mouse then starts it up, even though I powered down using the power button.
I have run a virus scna, and also run a Registry repair program all to no avail.

Anyone heard of anything like this before?

Maybe try device Manager and see if anything with a yellow exclamation mark beside it.If an oldish computer check that the air vents are clear of dust and fluff,if so inside will also need cleaning.

sounds like a hardware problem, try updating your graphics card drivers

PS will Ctrl+Alt+Del work when it stops?

Hi Woodchip,

Alt Cntl Del does not work - everything freezes apart from being to move the mouse curser which is usually stuck at the "hand" setting.

As I said it sounds like it could be Graphics Driver. You could try turning Acceleration Down in display Properties first, one notch at a time

Cheers - will give that a try later.
