I have chosen a separate monitor as it seems to be a much better monitor to the ones that you
can get bundled with the PC, the monitor I have chosen is the Dell UltraSharp 2007FP 20.1-inch Black Flat Panel LCD Monitor (2007FP TCO99) priced at £363.08

The total price included the monitor is £1170.95

I would have got another PC from Evesham but their future looks a bit dodgey with their recent take over and I'm sure they are in a similar predicament now after I read something on here.

I did have a bit of a bad experiance with MESH a number of years back, but I suppose I could give them a second chance. I have never dealt with Dell before but I hear mixed things about their machines (good & bad) and also the same for their customer service.

I would value anyone's opinions on anything I have listed in this post. I'll be out all day so I'll reply to any posts tonight. Thanks

into two threads like this - they will rapidly become separated in the listings, and will be meaningless; people won't be able to see both threads, and they won't waste time looking.

It's far better to post links to the computers you're comparing, so people can click and see the machines on the relevant websites.

Regarding my first question regarding:

Based on the specs of the new machines, and comparing my present machine specs, would they be a great deal of speed/performance difference between getting one of new machines?

I have almost decided to go to Cougar Extreme as I have read very positive things on here about them and also I was amazed at how much customisation was available from them. I will list below the two specs of PC I am considering from Cougar Extreme. With the below in mind would these systems overall be much faster/better performance than my present PC.

My current PC:

Intel Pentium D Processor 950 Dual Core (3.4ghz 2x2mb cache, 800mhz)
2GB DDR2 RAM 533mhz
400GB SATA 7200rpm hard drive 16mb buffer
256mb DDR ATI Radeon X850 Pro PCI-Express graphic card
7.1 channel on board sound

First option from Cougar:

Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad QX6850 3.0 Ghz 8Mb Cach, 4Gb Corsair Memory DDR2 800 - 4 x 1GB, 500GB SATA Hard Drive, , CA-5001 Black/Silver , Atrix 800Watt Silent Dual Fan PSU, 256Mb Nvidia 8600GT graphics card DX10, QC - GAP35-DQ6 1333fsb-DDR1066x4 crosfire motherboard, 2 x Pioneer DVD +/- Re-writer 112D, Floppy Drive - BLACK, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 PCI 7.1, Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (OEM), 13 Month Warranty, Free Carriage

The second option is the same apart from it would have a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz 8Mb Cache in it, and this is priced at £861.31.

I will add that my main uses are, I do a lot of video encoding, Winrar large files/folders and extracting them as well, photo editing, basically a bit of everything really apart from games.

Buy the cheaper one with a bigger PSU...

  FatboySlim71 22:26 28 Jan 2008

A bigger PSU, I don't think there was any greater than 800watt, I would expect 800watt to be more than powerful for anything.

  Cougar Extreme 23:45 28 Jan 2008

Please note that we do sell PSU’s up to 1300 watt, and we also stock alternative brands such as Corsair, BFG and Tagan, I agree that an 800 watt power supply is sufficient. There are left and right scroll bars on the PSU and case upgrade buttons that you can use to view our full range. I hope this helps.

Yours truly,

The cougar gang.

Thanks very much for that Cougar Extreme I really appreciate the reply.

On looking around on the net regarding the Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad QX6850 and the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, I am tending to sway towards the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz, as the price difference and it would seem not that massive of an improvement between the two would not really justify me paying the extra £500 or so.

I would like to know if the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz that you fit are the go stepping versions as I have heard that these can be quite easily overclocked to 3ghz, so this would then really give me the extra speed of the QX6850 for around £500 less.
