say if i have a 1x UltraDMA 133/100 motherboard
A:Can i put a normal ata hard drive on to it
B:Can i put a normal pata hard drive on to it

Yes any (Normal ATA) or P(parallel)ATA are IDE hard drives and will run at the sped set buy the IDE controller on your mother board.

One consideration is: if it is an old board (6/7 years old or more) the BIOS may not recognise the full size of the drive but there are was to get round that.

They are both the same thing.

An ATA drive is a PATA hard drive.

The different ones are SATA and SCSI hard drives.
