Password protecting a folder

How do I password protect just one folder?

  Terry Brown 14:55 04 Mar 2010

If you have a full version of Winzip, drop the folder in a winzip folder and passlock lock it from there.

The advantage is, if you need to add more files/folders later you can, and you know where they are.

Not free, but I have been using this program since XP, and it is very reliable and easy.

MS Private Folder is not compatible with Windows 7.

Thanks - seems to work :-) But what I can't understand is that I've got some files copied from my Win98SE computer that were password protected now copied onto my XP Home pc, and the password protection still works! Why did the option to password protect individual files disappear with XP in the 1st place?

  pompyx 16:27 04 Mar 2010

It didn't, Save as, tools, security options still works for individual files.

Ah - that's where it is. I very rarely use it, but couldn't see any reference to it when I searched in Help. Thanks for that :-)

Thanks everybody; I'll digest all your suggestions & try some out.

One of the best free ones is TrueCrypt click here. I've been using it for a good few years now. G
