hi every one thanks for reading this.
i installed panda antivrus of the coverdisc and think its great.
im not used to using a fire wall though.
panda keeps on popping up saying
application layer gateway services
(microsoft windows operating system). is trying to access your system.
what are these and should i deny access to my system.

and norton antivirus trys sending updates.
i had to uninstall norton to use panda. so should i deny access to norton completly or just keep pressing deny this time only.
many thanks for all your help ozzy...

I would give Norton full access at all times; it is a fairly reputable company and needs to access the net to get the relevant updates.

What firewall are you using? (Does Panda AV have a firewall option?)

FILENAME: Alg.exe.

PROGRAM NAME: Application Layer Gateway.

DESCRIPTION: Part of Windows XP that provides support for ICS and Internet Connection Firewall (ICF).

RECOMMENDED ACTION: If a third-party firewall warns you that ALG.exe wants access, check to make sure you're not double-firewalled. If you are, disable ICF. If you are using neither ICF nor ICS and are warned that ALG.exe is trying to access the Net, deny it. A Trojan horse or worm may be trying to use it as a backdoor.
