Backup all personal files, emails, favourites, music, videos etc. The hard drive will be wiped of course.

If the machine is not booting, use a Linux LiveCD to get at all your data (eg "Try Ubuntu". Not install)

or take the HDD out and put it in a USB caddy and connect to a working computer.

If the Recovery Partition is still on the HDD, you can manually boot from it.

Burn a copy of Partition Wizard Bootable CD

Boot the Packard Bell with it.

Can you see the RP? Should be around 3GB for XP.

If it is marked Hidden, Right click it, Modify, Unhide. Then Apply (top left)

Make a note of which Partition is currently 'Active'

Right click the Recovery Partition, Modify/Set Active. Apply. OK/exit. Eject CD and reboot.

If it doesn't work. Use the CD to set the original partition back to Active.

Note: in case of failure, try 2 or 3 times.
