Overclocking an AMD XP1600+ and CL?

  [DELETED] 00:41 13 Dec 2003

As an overclocking virgin, I am looking for advice on how to change the speed of my machine in stages.

I am running an AMD XP 1600+ on a PC Chips M810 LR with FSB rated at 133 mhz (266mhz) with a multiplier of 10.5. What is possible and how do you do it.

I also would like to know how to check the CL rating of my machine and the CL rating of the RAM in it? Any suggestions please.

you can overclock it. just go into bios and change the fsb to 200. at which point your comp will go into meltdown. to cool it will cost a hell of a lot. The m810 series is not the greatest MB in the world. get rid of it and get a A7N8X-X.

the m810 should be rated at 166mhz. try it at that.

Thanks, but the bios offers only 2 clock speeds - 100 or 133 - no sight of any other options. The M/B reaches its limit at XP 2600 at 133mhz (266mzh) So what are the overclockers doing that I can't seem to do?

Thanks for the recommendation on a new m/b

Type in "overclocking forums" in google, and take your pick

You will have trouble overclocking mainly because tbe chip tends to on some board's lock the FSB (Front Side bus) to the speeds it goes at.

Also unless you unlock the L1 bridges on the chip, you cant really overclock it that much.

Beware though doing it and that if you do there is the chance you will fry your motherboard and chip...

But that is all i am going to say..

After checking out the 'overclocking websites and forums, I have come to the conclusion that its not really practical with the PC Chips M/B. Guess I will ahve to buy a new CPU (the XP2400+)

but perhaps see and look if there is a local computer fair nearby.

You can pick up some very reasonable bits and piece's there and also get to look at the bits before buying...

I buy most of my motherboards from their, except when it is a particular board i am hunting for...
