Outlook pst file not reducing

  melvyn 22:47 08 Dec 2009

I have started deleting old e-mails from my outlook.pst file since the file was getting up to 1.5GB.

Having deleted an amazing amount of stuff, I then deleted it all from the deleted folder, expecting to see the size of the file decreased. It does not appear to have reduced at all, and with the influx of new e-mails both in and sending its size is now nearly 1.6GB.

Surely it should show a smaller size under windows explorer?

Arguably the best solution to this is to create another pst file & archive some mail into this, e.g. click here / click here.

If you're running out of hard disk space, archive this new pst file to a CD / DVD. G

After doing the above, do this: 'How to configure the size limit for both (.pst) and (.ost) files in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003' click here. G

You can also right click on Outlook Today in the Folder view and select Properties, Advanced and click Compact Now.
