Outlook Express will not download

A friend is suddenly unable to access their current e-mails on Freeserve via OE. They connect to the Web as normal but clicking on the OE shortcut shows only the mail that was there before the "freeze" started. On hitting Send/Receive a message appears saying "connection unexpectedly terminated". At the bottom right of the screen the two TV's have a red cross across them. However, the connection to the internet remains open and access to Internet Explorer is OK.

Can you help or suggest how to solve the problem with OE please?

This problem happened without any warning and checking User name, password, number dialled POP and SMTP has not solved it.

can they surf ok? the cross would indicate a lost connection ( ie cable unplugged router turned off )is the mail set to hang up after send recieve? and of course what os are they using and what type of internet connection?

They can surf OK. The OS is windows XP and they are on dial-up. The mail is not set to hang up after send/receive.

The odd thing is that the red cross appears but they can still surf in IE and the connection is not dropped.

My neighbour has Freeserve emails. He often goes for more than 90 days without sending a message - but he does receive them. When, eventually, Freeserve 'freeze' the account (as they do!) he has to go into the help (top right of the Wanadoo page) and then restore his account to life. Perhaps that is what has happened here. It's only the email transactions(in his case - for he has broadband on Home Call!).
