Outlook Express Settings

I am running Windows 98SE and OE 6. Recently I am finding OE will not keep its settings. When it stops I look at Tool/Acoounts to find the Mail and SMTP settings have been replace by 127.0.0.1 which is the number reserved for your own computer - so I am told. If I reset the Account then it works for a short while then reverts again. It has been suggested it might be the Virus checker - I am riunning Avast or the Firewall- I am running Outpost.

A third possibility was a Trojan. I have scanned with A squared and there was indeed a Trojan which was quarantined but OE is STILL doing it.

Any ideas?

turn off the avast email scanner provider and see if it keeps happening.

any virus will be caught by avast if you open a dodgy email anyway

I've had this happen with anti-spam programs. Sounds like an e-mail scanner as brundle suggests.
