The point about turning off the Preview Pane PERMANENTLY is to avoid letting the little nasties loose inadvertently even with just one mouse click.
With the PP disabled, you can safely view e-mail header and message through Properties after right clicking on the highlighted e-mail.
If in any doubt, keep Cancelling and then Delete using the Toolbar button - repeat the delete in the Deleted Folder if you wish.
