Outlook Express Outbox clog causing problems

I'm running Win ME with Outlook Express 6.0.

I tried to send a large file to somebody recently and it never sent because it was too big (my OE is hooked up to my hotmail account).

Ever since, the following message has been displayed when I click on my Outbox:

"Folder could not be displayed
Outlook Express could not open this folder.

Possible causes are:

Low disk space.

Low memory".

The Outbox also shows that it contains 1 message so clearly the attacment I tried to send is clogging up the system.

As a result I can't send anything through OE.
I have no trouble receiving messages.

What's the cure? Anybody? I'd like to avoid reinstalling OE, as I've got messages archived that I want to keep.
