Options for upgrading wife's PC

  markcomp 14:14 16 Feb 2014

My wife's PC: AMD Phenom II X2 555 (was not able to unlock the other cores even when it was the kids) ASUS M4A88T-M, on board ATI Radeon HD 4250 4GB RAM running win 7 64 bit. She is not a gamer but often has innumerable tabs open and it just seems a bit unresponsive. Best options for upgrading and keeping the peace? Any thoughts much appreciated

Look in the BIOS for

CPU Unlock setting and enabled it, Save and exit the BIOS.

At first it may seem to be not working but reboot it a few time and it should find all 4 cores and show CPU core 0 to 4 are enabled.

How much memory does it have? what operating system are you using 32bit or 64 bit as windows can only use 4G in a 32bit system.

Add some more RAM. You have 4GB at current and a chunk of that will be being used by the onboard graphics.

Go to the Crucial site and run the scanner, it will show what is installed and give options to upgrade.

More RAM is no good if only running a 32bit system.

I certainly misread it

missed 4G RAM and 64bit - must get some new glasses ;0(

Possibly a 4 year old system so perhaps a good clean and de-clutter may be needed.
