Optical Drive Missing From BIOS

  PhiltheFragger 07:25 26 May 2005

2 year old Carrera System Athlon xp 2000
Win XP Standard sort of spec.

The CD drive failed, Not shown in Device Manager or BIOS, Swapped in a new one, Same story, Changed IDE Ribbon Cable. Same Story, Swapped PSU input, Same Story.

There is One CD drive, set to master, linked to IDE2.
Hard Drive is fine on IDE1

I think I may have a knackered Motherboard

What do you think?

Well, it could be.

Can you try a different IDE channel?

  PhiltheFragger 08:17 26 May 2005

My next plan of attack is to Swap the Cd cable to the IDE1 Channel to see if its detected.

If the IDE2 is dead, is there any scope in putting an IDE PCI card in or should I junk the machine?

Yes, an IDE PCI card will be an easy and effective option.
