open port

when i turn on my comp and scan with shields up i have an open port no 1025 i use norton firewall but i cant seem to close the port if i scan a secord time the port is closed can anyone tell me how to keep it closed win xp thanks mary

have a look in your firewall application rule settings or allowed programs list(or similar name)i use outpost firewall so am not that familiar with norton.

you may have allowed an instance of svchost.exe.if you can get a list of programs that are allowed and svchost is one of them,click remove and run the port scan should get a pop up asking if you want to allow it.

in my experience(which is not much) i just create a rule with outpost to reject it and the port stays closed.if i allow all activities its open.if i block it then i cant access the internet at all.

as above not sure about norton.
