Only one user can log on - not the other

  fitshase 18:37 15 May 2007

I am running Windows XP Pro on my desktop machine at home. I have 2 users (both admin) - one for me and one for the wife.

All was well today and I have been using the computer without any problems.

However, I've switched it off as I wasn't using it. My wife has come back from work, started the computer and she logged in. I went on to check for new mails and I cannot log on:-

- click on my name on the welcome screen
- startup sound plays
- computer stops at "applying personal preferences" (or something like that).

I have restarted the machine and it does the same thing. My wife can log in no problem but I can't - it just freezes at the same place.

We both have admin accounts.

Help anyone?

System Restore

How do I get into System Restore if I cannot log in?

I've tried f5 to try to get the startup menu but that doesn't seem to work.

Forgive me but in all the years I have been using XP - I've never had to use System Restore!

Mrs shitface should be able to do it.

start > Run type

and click OK.

Done it - cheers. Went back to a point this morning and all is working well.

VoG™ - I don't think the wife will like you calling her that!
