Office 2007 SP1 downloads but wont install

  CDL 20:48 18 Dec 2007

I have tried to update Office 2007 with the new SP1 update. It appears to download OK but it wont install. I've also manually downloaded the full file but again near the end of the installation it aborts. I Have transfered the d/l to another machine and it installs fine so the file isn't corrupt. Previous updates have installed OK.
I've tried stopping/restarting the ose service but still no joy.
Suggestions ?

If its on Vista I've found you may need to disable UAC to let office update work. I don't know why but it seems to vary between installs/versions.

Thanks (yes it's Vista) - just tried that but it made no difference - still get the error message - "2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1) has stopped working "

There's an event description and associated information about the error - but it means nothing to me !

I've seen a number of causes like lack of disk space, the need to access files from the CD/DVD or corruption/out of sync install logs.

The latter may need a re-install or system restore prior to the point where the upgrade fails.

If you search on or post the errort code chances are there's someone out there whos shared your luck.

Tried a few other things but still no luck ! BUT now when I do a MS Update it tells me I need ...SP1 Size 31.1 MB ! So has some of it installed ? I get an error no 80070643 telling me to check the ose in services but it is started - I've stopped and restarted few times but this has made no difference.

Looks like they had the same problem with Office 2003 - deja vu all over again:

I think the installer/updater software is the same so the fixes are also likely to be !

Seems to be a common problem, I have the same problem, and there are loads of references to it in Microsoft's forum, none of the suggested solutions seem to work, seems we'll just have to wait until MS sort it out

OK I've tried the Office 2003 fix - replacing the ose file - but; no change ! Thanks anyway.
I think mikef. is right - we'll have to wait for Microsoft to 'sort it out'

Like you several attempts failed to work ;But found that if i maually downloaded this file it worked for me. Go into windows update and veiw history dble click on your failed update and select more info.

From here you will be able to download best to save to desktop and open from there.

OK I've tried that sinbads, thanks but again it's "stopped working"
